MN Legislature SLASHES Undocumented Immigrant Insurance in SHOCKING $66B Budget Overhaul!
Minnesota lawmakers on Monday sanctioned a bill terminating state-supported health insurance coverage for adult immigrants living in the country illegally. This action was part of a hard-won compromise within the budget deal reached between legislative leaders and Governor Tim Walz.
During a special legislative session on Monday, which ended early Tuesday, the legislature approved a $66 billion two-year state budget which they did not complete before the regular session adjourned last month. It is now up to Walz to sign it into law.
Critical sections of government, including the Department of Education and the Department of Human Services, faced potential shutdowns unless new funding was authorized by the end of the month. These areas, along with health, account for two-thirds of general fund spending.
The remaining higher education, health, energy, environment, and commerce budget items also required House and Senate approval. These chambers finalized a dozen or so remaining budget bills.
They also approved a standalone tax change bill on data center tax incentives and a $700 million bond bill for infrastructure, including roads and waste treatment facilities.
The legislature granted funding for public safety, corrections and veterans affairs. These were covered by bills the Legislature passed during the regular session.
