With the commencement of hurricane activities, Allstate is heightening its extreme weather response protocols while focusing on encouraging Americans to prepare for such opportunities. The insurer’s latest findings suggests that close to two-thirds of US families do not possess a disaster recovery plan, regardless of the continuing increase of intense and destructive storms.

Allstate from its end has processed over $3 billion in weather claims in 2025 itself, supporting the arguments for proactive preparation in advance. “Storms are hitting harder and more often, putting lives, properties and even communities at a far greater risk,” were the words of Andrea Bessling, claims field director of Allstate’s National Catastrophe Team. “When severe weather actions become more frequentadare, being prepared can prove to be extremely helpful”.

In the hope to reduce losses and expedite recovery, Allstate recommend some uncomplex but extremely effective strategies for renters and homeowners. Some of these include revision of insurance policies, documentation of home inventories through filming, and reinforcing susceptible points like garage doors and roof shingles.

Basic flood prevention techniques such as testing for sump pumps, removing dirt from gutters and adding backflow preventers are also encouraged. “Loose shingles or branches may not seem like a big deal, but in a storm, they become dangerous projectiles”.
